Welcome to the Inclusion Allies Coalition

DEI Embattled States Community

Welcome to the Inclusion Allies Coalition (IAC) Community for DEI Practitioners interested in forming a community of practitioners to learn from and support each other as DEI, Affirmative Action, ESG, CRT, etc. is under attack in many states across the U.S. You will be supported by IAC Leadership and Committees

Feel free to invite others you may know to join, since this is for IAC members and non-members.

Why Are We Launching This Community Within IAC?

Many of our members are growing increasingly concerned and stressed about the flood of anti-DEI legislation being proposed and/or passed in states such as Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Minnesota, Wisconsin Michigan, Idaho, Ohio, etc. Some organizations in these states are afraid to speak out against the proposed legislation for fear of being put in the spotlight by government officials or anti-DEI groups. DEI consultants working with clients in some of these states have been told not to use the words, diversity, equity or inclusion in the titles of DEI training courses.

In discussions with members, they are looking to get the support of others in these states facing the same issues, and the support of IAC through advocacy, listening sessions and webinars addressing these attacks.

IAC Launches a "DEI is Thriving" Campaign

To counter the attacks on DEI, AA, CRT, CSR, ESG, which are growing in a number of states and global regions, IAC is launching a "DEI is THRIVING" Campaign.

  • To provide those on the front lines of defending DEI with counter narratives and positive strategies to illustrate the importance of DEI.

  • To create an alternative narrative by moving beyond the business case to appeal to the emotions and humanity of those on both sides of the political divide.

  • To fulfill IAC's vision of being the "voice of DEI Global practitioners."

The Campaign has six elements:

  • WEBINARS: WEBINARS: Webinars/ Listening Sessions with practitioners from embattled states, focused on what they are experiencing and what they need from IAC
  • ADVOCACY: Respon ses to the growing attacks on DEI, AA, CRT, CSR, ESG through blogs, IAC statements, tracking state legislation
  • RESOURCES: Toolkits and Resource Guides to help organizations respond to the ongoing attacks
  • MEDIA/SOCIAL MEDIA: Articles/blogs/op-eds and constant flow of DEI is THRIVING social media messages
  • VIDEOS: Series of short video clips that appeal to emotions showing the many ways DEI work is alive, well and THRIVING
  • MEMBER ENGAGEMENT: Community of practitioners in embattled states providing support and encouragement to each other

Responding to the Attacks on DEI: A Listening Session with DEI Practitioners in the Embattled States

In July, IAC held a Listening Session to hear from members of three of the Embattled States: Florida, Georgia and Missouri. We used the Heart, Head and Hands approach as they answered these questions: How are you feeling? What are we learning? What do you need?  For the Learning section in these three states, we researched and prepared a chart for the legislation in each state, its subject, content and status, so that we will continue to be up to date on what is happening across the U.S. We have posted these charts on this Community under Pages-State Anti-DEI Legislation. We have also added a state-by-state chart of anti-DEI Legislation for Public Universities.

Responding to the Attacks on DEI, ESG, CRT and the Overturning of Affirmative Action: An IAC Webinar

In late August, we held a webinar focused on how to respond to these growing attacks. We were joined by panelists to set the stage on what this means for DEI practitioners, share research on how CDOs are responding to the overturning of Affirmative Action, and provide some tools on how to respond. We have included the slides from this webinar under the Resources page for this Community.
